Stop Planning Your Week Like Everyone Else—Follow the Planets Instead

Most of us wake up on Monday already behind, stumble into Friday exhausted, and wonder where the week actually went. We’re taught to manage time in blocks, hours, deadlines, and alarms—but rarely in rhythm.

And yet, the rhythm was always there.

Long before planners, productivity hacks, or color-coded calendars, the Babylonians looked up at the sky and shaped their weeks around something more intuitive: the seven celestial bodies they observed—Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. Each one carried a different energy, a different purpose, a different quality of day.

This ancient structure influenced Jewish, Greek, and Roman cultures, eventually becoming the same seven-day week sitting on your calendar today. But modern life moved on, and we stopped listening.

What Each Day Represents

Your week is a cycle, not a flat line. Each day holds its own energy, or suggestion if you will. Of course we are now very disconnected from this original energy, but why not try to find a semblance of it if and when possible?

Below, you’ll find what each day asks of you, along with reflection prompts to help you move through your week with more intention.

Sunday — The Day of the Sun

Sunday invites rest. Recharge without guilt.

You are allowed to move slowly and still be radiant. Today is a day to reconnect with your essence and values. It’s about vitality, identity, and connecting with purpose. Prioritize the kind of rest that fuels you, not the kind that leaves you drained.

The Sun rules Sunday and symbolizes life force, identity, and clarity. It reminds us to reconnect with who we are and what drives us. Sunday is a chance to recharge deeply and prepare for the week ahead from a place of calm.

Sunday Prompts:

  • When did I feel most energized last week, and how can I create more of that?
  • Which relationship or connection could use a little extra care this week?
  • How can I bring a bit more meaning into my routine this week?
  • What’s one simple way I can recharge today without feeling guilty?
  • Which activity or habit drained my energy last week—and how can I protect myself from it?

Monday — The Day of the Moon

Monday is about tuning in before taking off.

Today is about nourishment, reflection, and adjusting to the week’s rhythm. Care for yourself before you perform for others.

Monday is ruled by the Moon — tied to emotions, intuition, and cycles. You don’t have to spend the day journaling by candlelight (though you can if you want). It simply means there’s value in starting slow, checking in with yourself, and easing into motion with intention.

Let this be a day where intention outweighs intensity. You don’t need to do everything on your to-do list—just spend some time figuring out where you want to place your energy this week. Even five minutes of stillness between tasks can shift how you show up.

Monday Prompts:

  • Where is my attention being pulled?
  • What small act of care can I offer myself today?
  • Is there anything I need to release before the week begins?
  • What kind of support — internal or external — do I need?
  • Is my schedule realistic, or am I setting myself up to fall behind?
  • One thing I’m craving more of this week is: _______________

Tuesday — The Day of Mars

Tuesday is about forward motion. Start with the thing you’re avoiding.

Mars, the planet of action, momentum, and drive, rules Tuesday. This is a day for acting assertively and with stamina. Courage doesn’t need to be monumental—small steps count.

Use this energy to face tasks that have been piling up, take clear next steps, and build traction. Progress matters more than perfection.

Tuesday Prompts:

  • What boundaries would help me protect my focus this week?
  • What’s one area of my life that needs more momentum?
  • What’s draining my energy right now?
  • Where can I bring more courage into my life?

Wednesday — The Day of Mercury

Wednesday is for clarity. Cut through the noise.

Mercury, the planet of communication, thought, and exchange, rules this day. Midweek is perfect for pausing, organizing, and getting clear.

Use Mercury’s sharpness to sort tasks, make decisions, have important conversations, or journal through mental clutter. Creating clarity today ensures the rest of your week runs smoother.

Wednesday Prompts:

  • What’s taking up the most space in my head right now?
  • What conversations do I need to have—or stop rehearsing?
  • Is there anything I’ve been overthinking that needs a simple next step?
  • How can I bring more structure to the rest of my week?
  • What do I need to write down so I can stop carrying it around?
  • Where can I be more direct or honest—with myself or someone else?

Thursday — The Day of Jupiter

Thursday is for growth. Push your ideas further.

Jupiter, the planet of expansion, opportunity, and generosity, rules Thursday. Don’t shrink your ideas before exploring them.

Use this day to expand horizons—through learning, teaching, connecting, or envisioning possibilities. Think big, and let abundance guide your actions.

Thursday Prompts:

  • What’s one idea I’ve been too cautious to explore?
  • How can I grow my skills or knowledge this week?
  • Where do I feel stuck, and how can I open up to new perspectives?
  • Who can I reach out to for advice or inspiration?
  • What bigger picture am I missing?

Friday — The Day of Venus

Friday is about joy. Notice the beauty around you.

Venus, the planet of love, harmony, and creativity, guides Friday. It’s a time to slow down and enjoy what feels good, nurturing relationships, aesthetics, and meaningful experiences.

Friday Prompts:

  • What or who brings me joy right now?
  • How can I create more ease in my day?
  • What’s one small thing I can do to make my space more beautiful?
  • Where do I feel most connected—to myself or others?
  • What feels meaningful that I want to nourish?

Saturday — The Day of Saturn

Saturday demands focus. Build with purpose and patience.

Saturn, the taskmaster planet of discipline, responsibility, and boundaries, rules Saturday. Use this day to strengthen systems, habits, or long-term goals.

Whether it’s cleaning, planning, or reflecting, today is about structure and intentional effort—building for the future.

Saturday Prompts:

  • What habits are supporting me, and which need adjustment?
  • Where do I need clearer boundaries?
  • What long-term goal deserves my focus?
  • How can I show respect to myself through discipline?
  • What structure can I build today that helps tomorrow?
